Christmas Carols

It's 105 degrees outside and I received a message from Barbara Jenkins back in Wyoming and she said it was 5 below zero.  Can't hardly believe we're 110 degrees apart.

Last night we went over to the Goodwin Senior Center and Evelyn played the piano as members and missionaries sang together for the residents.  Every time I go there I have my heart strings tugged thinking of my mother back at Seville and hoping she's listening to the different choirs and musical groups that come to perform.  We've made some good friends by going over there on Wednesday evenings.  Afterward we drove over to the Lynham building and had our first Institute class.  There were five young people and that included two sister missionaries.  We had a good conversation talking about the necessary pieces of the puzzle to be in place for the coming forth of the Book of Mormon.

We are in communication with the mission home because there is an Elder arriving in Canberra tonight, on a flight from New Zealand.  He has an appointment in the morning with the Embassy of Ecuador to try and obtain his visa.  He was just set apart last night and hasn't been to any MTC yet so I'm certain we have one nervous young man arriving.  There is transportation that will take him to a Hotel tonight and then Evelyn and I will pick him up in the morning, take him to breakfast and then get him to his appointment at the Embassy.  We are to have him back to the airport by 2:00 to catch a flight to Sydney. President Runia doesn't know if he'll be here two days or two months.

Elder Palmer and Lee went to Sydney to pick up their new companion and they're driving back right now (about 5:30).  We were going to take them out for dinner but they just called from the road.  The bush fires are so bad that they main highway is closed so they're trying to find back roads through the outback to get home tonight.  Dinner postponed.

Evelyn is in the other room playing hymns on the keyboard which is wonderful to listen to. Grateful for the swamp cooler or this heat would be terrible.  Quite humid in here though.
