Another momentary farewell

Elder Palmer is returning home, after serving honorably, to American Falls, Idaho.  He has been our District Leader since we arrived in early November.  He's quite shy and would have preferred to sit in the background.  Yet, when called he rose to the occasion and did a wonderful job.  Yesterday, during our District council he taught about what Jesus Christ has done, who he is, and what it means to us. The primary answers were written down, individually, rather than a collective discussion.  It became a time of serious reflection and a moment to ponder.  Thanks Elder Palmer!

The temperature soared to 108 yesterday and today is supposed to be as hot.  The real problem is that another bush fire has ignited and is threatening a large portion of the Canberra Stake.  People are being asked to have an evacuation plan in place and to watch the news.  President Stuart, and others, have been posting updates on the internet and there are several fire fighting agencies that are assisting.  The Stromlo ward is facing the biggest threat.  We've advised the young missionaries to be aware of the situation and to keep in touch with the ward mission leader, keep their cars full of petrol and carry other emergency essentials.

We are taking Sister Christensen and Sister Ballew out to lunch.  They were the first to place a Book of Mormon after I issued a challenge to the District, last week.  It seems that Sister Ballew is going to be transferred this next week and she definitely wanted her award.  Her smile is such a delight and she, like the other young sisters, is so desirous of doing the work.

Last night, in my prayer, I felt impressed to name each of our grandchildren and spend some time thinking about each one.  We have been so blessed to have these wonderful spirits come into our mortal realm.  I also thought about the new baby that Sophie is carrying.  He'll be here the first part of April and I'm anxious to meet him.  We probably won't be able to meet him until he's a one year old.  It will be just a "moment" and we'll probably have him, with his cousins, running around the place up there in Wyoming.  Maybe he'll be born on my father, and grandmother's birthday,  April 9th.
